In-Home Maternity Photography — Indianapolis, Indiana

When I first spoke with Ali about being her birth photographer and additional support in the birth room, we instantly clicked. Being held over Zoom most days, most consultations consist of kids and pets running around. I loved that I could fully relate with Ali in that aspect, being that our children are around the same age. It was still winter when we spoke, and we had just had one of our first and only big snows of the season! Expecting her third babe and boy, she was excited to speak with me about how I could offer something unique and necessary inside her birthing space.

Aligning with clients on their birthing wishes and goals is something I ultimately strive for when cultivating client/photographer relationships. It is so very important to me that the people I serve within the birthing setting understand the importance of good support in their space. When laboring, surrendering to your body and the atmosphere you are in is key. In order to do that, it is imperative that you feel supported enough to do so! I feel that birth documentation - photography - is also a key pillar of support during birth. Birth is so visceral. It is raw, and it is beautiful. Being able to look back on those moments can invoke so many feelings that many may need to release in order to fully process their birth. Not to mention, they can be kept for many generations to come! For birth, I always get together with families to capture their pregnancy. It offers a great way for us to become more comfortable with one another, as well as documents such a sweet time during their lives.

At Ali’s, I instantly felt right at home. After meeting the kids, her husband Nick offered me coffee while everyone finished getting ready. As I sipped, I looked around and caught the aesthetic of their home. Plants in every corner, hanging words of wisdom, and an overall bohemian vibe filled their home, with natural wood, greys, and displays of their favorite books. I was excited to photograph them in their element, to document moments of them cuddling their newest creation in wait.
